7. Remove the new microprocessor from the protective cover that protects the

gold contacts on the bottom of the new microprocessor.

8. Hold the new microprocessor by the edges and align the notches 1 on it with

the tabs 2 in the microprocessor socket. Then, install the microprocessor into

the socket.

9. To complete the installation, go to “Completing the parts replacement” on page

87.

This section provides instructions on how to remove the system fans.

To remove the system fans, do the following:

1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the

server. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect

all cables that are connected to the server.

2. Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 42.
