1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.If
theserverisintowerformfactor,laytheserveronitssideforeasieroperation.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage66.
4.Locatethebackplanes.See“Hot-swap-drivebackplane”onpage37.
5.RemovetheAnyRAIDadapterorthepass-throughboard.See“ReplacingtheAnyRAIDadapteror
thepass-throughboard”onpage143.
6.Removealltheinstalledhot-swapstoragedrivesanddummytrays(ifany)fromthestorage-drivebays.

7.Recordthecableconnectionsonthebackplane,andthendisconnectallthecablesfromthebackplane.
8.Dependingontheservermodel,dooneofthefollowing:
•Fortheservermodelswith3.5-inch-drivebackplane,pressthetworeleasetabs1andgentlyliftthe
3.5-inch-drivebackplanealittlebitupwardsothatitisreleasedfromthehooksonthechassis.Then,
carefullyremovethe3.5-inch-drivebackplaneoutofthechassis.
