Problemdescription:SinceHardwarePasswordManagerrequiresaWindowspasswordinorderto

passwordifoneisnotset.Instead,theHPMclientjustdoesn'tallowtheusertoclickNextiftheir

Windowspasswordisblank.

Solution:theusershouldhaveaWindowspasswordsetpriortoregisteringin

HardwarePassword

Manager.

•Symptom:SGEorSGNinstallationfailsiftheHardwarePasswordManagerclientisinstalled.

Problemdescription:IfinstallingSGNorSGEonWindowsXPwhentheHardwarePasswordManager

clientisinstalled,anerrorisdisplayedindicatingtheLenovoGINAisactiveandtheinstallationfails.

Solution:UninstalltheHardwarePasswordManagerclient,restartthesystem,installSGEorSGN,

restartagain,thenreinstalltheclient.

•Symptom:WhenenteringtheBIOSversionintotheBIOSversionexcludelistforThinkCentresystem,the

lastcharacteroftheBIOSversioncannotbeenteredintothetextboxintheAdminConsole.

Problemdescription:TheproblemisbecausetheHardwarePasswordManagerserversupportsa

maximumof8charactersfortheBIOSversion.ThinkCentresystemshavea9characterBIOSversion.

Thisisnotlikelytoposeaproblemsinceexactmatchesarenotrequired(rst8charactersarematched

regardlessofthe9thcharacter).

Solution:None

•Symptom:ReceivedtheerrormessagePSI.DLLismissing.

Problemdescription:TheerrormessagePSI.DLLismissingisdisplayediftheclientagentwasnot

installedcorrectly.

Solution:Uninstalltheclientagent,restartthesystem,thenreinstalltheclientagent.Makesurethe

HardwarePasswordManagercheckboxisselectedwheninstallingtheclientagentifyouwishtouse

HardwarePasswordManageronthatsystem).

•Symptom:YoucancreatetwohardwareaccountsassociatedwithoneWindowsaccount.

Problemdescription:Thisproblemoccurswhenrestoringasystemfromabackupthatwastakenpriorto

registeringinHardwarePasswordManager.WhenenrollinginHardwarePasswordManager,theuser's

WindowscredentialsarestoredinsecurestoragewithintheWindowsCAPIkeystore.Furthermore,the

associationbetweentheWindowscredentialandtheintranetaccountismaintained.

Whenrestoringasystemtoapointpriortotheuserbeingenrolledin

HardwarePasswordManager,

theCAPIkeystorecanbelost(sinceitisstoredintheWindowsregistry),whichmeanstheWindows

credentialsandassociationswiththeintranetaccountarelosteventhoughthesystemisactually

registered.Inthiscase,theclientapplicationwillcontinuetopromptyoutoenroll(ifpolicyindicatestodo

so).Furthermore,ifyoutrytoenrollandyouspecifythesameintranetaccountasyoupreviouslyusedto

enroll,theclientapplicationwillfailindicatingyoualreadyenrolled.Ifyouweretoenrollagainusinga

differentintranetaccount,theclientapplicationwillallowtheenrolltocomplete–nowyouwillhavetwo

hardwareaccountsassociatedwiththesameWindowsaccount(whichisnotrecommended).

Solution:Topreventthisproblemfromoccurring,makesureyourbackupistakenafterthesystemis

registeredin

HardwarePasswordManager(whenusingRescueandRecoveryoranybackuptoolthat

performsafulldiskbackup,forexample.
