startthemachine,andre-registerinHardwarePasswordManagerusingtheClientPortal.Inordertoclear

theHDP ,youmustenteritmanually.YoucanobtainitfromtheThinkManagementConsole.

YoumusthavetheHDDIDfortheharddiskinordertolocatethecorrectHDP .TheHDDIDcanberetrieved

usingaLenovo-suppliedHardwarePasswordManagerDOSutility.

Whenasystemboardismovedfromonesystemtoanothersystem,itisassumedthatthesystemboardis

notregisteredinHardwarePasswordManager.YoumustclearordisableHardwarePasswordManager

priortoredeployingthesystemboardintheeld.

•Desktopsystems-Ifthesystemboardwasnotderegistered,youcanremovetheCMOSbatterytoclear

thePOP/SVP,thenenterBIOSsetupanddisableHardwarePasswordManager

•ThinkPad-RemovingtheCMOSbatterywillnotcleartheSVP–youmustobtaintheSVPfromthe

ThinkManagementConsoleinordertoentertheBIOSsetupanddisableHardwarePasswordManager.

Note:Whenreplacingasystemboard,youmustresetthemachinetype/modelandserialnumbertomatch

thecorrectvaluespriortoregisteringinHardwarePasswordManager.

Whenre-registeringtheclientsystemwiththenewsystemboardinthesameHardwarePasswordManager

serverdomain,theserverwillrecognizethatthemachineisalreadyregistered(i.e.machine/user/hdd

instancesandhardwareaccountbackupalreadyexist)andclearallofthestructuresontheserverbefore

proceedingwiththeregistration.

Scenario7-Addaharddiskdrive

WhenaharddiskisaddedtoasystemregisteredinHardwarePasswordManager,youmustrenewthe

hardwareaccountinorderforHardwarePasswordManagertoassignapasswordtothenewharddisk.

RenewHardwareAccountwillrenumbertheharddisksinthemachineandsetpasswordsonalldetected

drives.

IftheharddiskalreadyhasaHDPset,youmustmanuallycleartheHDPbeforerunningRenewHardware

Account.IfyoudonotknowtheHDP ,thentheharddiskcannolongerbeused.

InordertocleartheHDP,youmusthavetheHDDIDandthesystemIDinordertoobtainthecorrectHDP

andSVP .TheHDDIDandmachineIDcanberetrievedusingaLenovosuppliedHardwarePassword

ManagerDOSutility.

Note:TheSVPisnotrequiredtoclearaHDPforThinkPadsystems.

WhenanunprotectedharddiskisaddedtoaHardwarePasswordManagerregisteredsystem,theBIOSwill

detectthattheharddiskisnotprotected.Inthiscase,whenloggingintoWindows,theClientPortalwill

informtheuserthatanunprotecteddevice(HDD)wasfoundandaskthemiftheywanttorenewthehardware.

Scenario8-Replaceormoveaharddiskdrive

IftheharddiskofasystemregisteredwithHardwarePasswordManagerfailsandmustbereplaced,there

arethreepossibilities.
