3.Followtheinstructionsthatcomewiththedevicetoprepareitforinstallationandtoconnectitto
theserver.
Updatingtheserverconfiguration
Whenyoustarttheserverforthefirsttimeafteryouinstallorremoveaninternaloptionorexternaldevice,
youmightreceiveamessagesayingthattheconfigurationhaschanged.TheSetupUtilityprogramstarts
automaticallysothatyoucansavethenewconfigurationsettings.
Someoptionshavedevicedriversthatyoumustinstall.Forinformationaboutinstallingdevicedrivers,see
thedocumentationthatcomeswitheachoption.
Youcanobtaindevicedriversforoperatingsystemsthatarenotpreinstalledat
http://www.lenovo.com/support.Installationinstructionsareprovidedinreadmefileswiththedevice
driverfiles.
Installingsecurityfeatures
Thereareseveralsecurityoptionsavailabletohelpyoupreventhardwaretheftandunauthorizedaccessto
yourserver.Inadditiontophysicallocks,youcanalsopreventunauthorizeduseofyourserverbyasoftware
lockthatlocksthekeyboarduntilacorrectpasswordistypedin.
Note:Makesurethatanysecuritycablesyouinstalleddonotinterferewithotherservercables.
Integratedcablelock
Anintegratedcablelock,sometimesreferredtoastheKensingtonlock,canbeusedtosecureyourserverto
adesk,table,orothernon-permanentfixture.Thecablelockattachestotheintegratedcablelockslotat
therearofyourserverandisoperatedwithakey.Thecablelockalsolocksthebuttonsusedtoremove
theservercover.Thisisthesametypeoflockusedwithmanynotebookcomputers.Youcanorderan
integratedcablelockdirectlyfromLenovobysearchingforKensingtonat:

Padlock
Yourserverisequippedwithapadlockloopsothatthecovercannotberemovedwhenapadlockisinstalled.
Passwordprotection
Todeterunauthorizeduseofyourserver,youcanusetheSetupUtilityprogramtosetapassword.When
youturnonyourserver,youarepromptedtotypethepassword.Theservercannotbeuseduntilavalid
