nextvirtualdriveinthearrayhastobeRAID5only.

ConfiguringRAIDusingtheThinkServerEasyStartupprogram
TheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramsimplifiestheprocessofconfiguringsupportedRAIDandinstalling
supportedWindowsandLinuxoperatingsystemsanddevicedriversonyourserver.Theuserguideforthe
programcanbeaccesseddirectlyfromtheprograminterface.
TheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramhasthefollowingfeaturesforRAIDconfiguration:
•ForusewithallsupportedRAIDcontrollers
•AutomaticallydetectshardwareandlistsallsupportedRAIDconfigurations
•Configuresoneormorediskarrayspercontrollerdependingonthenumberofdrivesattachedtothe
controllerandtheRAIDlevelselected
•Supportshot-sparedrives
•CreatesaRAIDresponsefilethatcanbeusedtoconfigureRAIDcontrollersonsimilarlyconfigured

SomeRAIDmanagementsoftwarealsoisprovidedontheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDtohelpyoumanage
RAIDarraysandRAIDcontrollersinanoperatingsystemenvironment.Afteryouentertheoperatingsystem,
inserttheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDintotheopticaldrive.Theinstallationpackagesfortheprograms
arelocatedintheUtilitiesandOthersfolderintherootdirectoryoftheDVD.TheThinkServerEasyStartup
DVDisdesignedfordifferenttypesofserversandtheUtilitiesandOthersfoldermightcontainadditional
installationpackagesthatarenotrequiredtobeinstalledonyourserver.
ConfiguringtheThinkServerRAID300
TheThinkServerRAID300(alsoknownasonboardSASsoftwareRAID)isintegratedinthePCHon
thesystemboard.Ifyouconnectthemini-SAStomini-SASsignalcablesfromthesystemboardtothe
backplane,youcanconfigureRAIDfortheharddiskdrivesusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtility
program,independentlyoftheoperatingsystem.TheThinkServerRAID300supportsRAIDlevels0,1,and
10bydefault.YoualsocanactivateRAID5byinstallingaThinkServerRAID300UpgradeKeyforAdvanced

YoucaninstallandusetheMegaRAIDStorageManagerprogramtomanagetheRAIDarrayandRAID
